Pair of chests of drawers in Gustavian style, Sweden ca. 1840-1860

Pair of decorative chests of drawers made of pine in Gustavian style with a beautiful blue-green color and fine patina, where the warm color of the wood shows through the surface and gives the furniture a lively and characterful expression.

The profiled tops are fitted with a finely carved dentil frieze that elegantly follows the shape of the furniture. The angled corners are adorned with carved rhombus ornaments above fluted panels, which underline the architectural character of the chests.

The front is composed as a classic Gustavian breakfront with a prominent central section and flanking side panels. The three drawers are designed with distinct panels that emphasize the harmonious construction, while the bottom drawer is finished with an elegant wavy lower edge that softens the otherwise strict lines of the furniture.

Brass fittings and escutcheons form a beautiful contrast to the blue-green color and the warm patina.

The chests rest on tapered legs with fluting.

Sweden, ca. 1840-1860.
