Louis XVI settee in light grey, Denmark, 1780–1790

Elegant Louis XVI sofa bench / settee made of beech and painted light grey with a beautiful, age-related patina, where the warm color of the wood shows through the paint in several places.

The settee is decorated with fine wood-carved details. A carved border runs along the back and the seat frame, while the legs are fluted and decorated at the top with carved rosettes. The base is joined with long stretchers.

The high, slightly curved and upholstered back continues into the closed sides and gives the settee an elegant, coherent form. The armrests are upholstered and finish at the front with carved volutes.

The settee has been newly upholstered in light natural-colored linen, which suits the patinated light grey color and the simple, neoclassical design of the piece.
