Description

Gustavian display cabinet, architecturally constructed in two parts in oak. The cabinet is in a light blue color with a beautiful, age-related patina.

The upper section has a curved, profiled top, centered around a fluted pilaster and flanked by geometric carvings. The two display doors have glazing bars with original glass, and the angled sides are likewise made with glazed panels with bars.

Inside, the display cabinet is in a light gray color and is fitted with two shelves. Along the front edge of the shelves are decorative, pierced carvings, which give the upper section a particularly fine and light character.

The lower section has two doors with profiled panels and a central, fluted panel between the doors. Below the display section is a smaller drawer, and the cabinet has decorative brass escutcheons as well as classic Gustavian legs.

A decorative and well-executed example of high-quality Swedish Gustavian joinery from the late 1700s.

Sweden, ca. 1780-1790.
