Gustavian chatol, Sweden ca. 1800

Gustavian chatol in rare, well-preserved original condition.

Made of pine in a warm reddish-brown shade with decorative blue marbled panels on both the writing flap and the doors, creating a beautiful contrast and testifying to the classic Swedish painting techniques of the time.

The sloping writing flap opens to a functional cinnabar-red interior with small drawers and an open compartment, ideal for storing letters and small items.

The lower section has a pair of doors with strongly profiled panels with blue marbling. Behind the doors is a spacious cabinet with a shelf, providing good storage space.

Original fittings, hinges, iron locks and keys are preserved.

Has a beautiful, natural age-related patina.

Sweden, ca. 1800.
