Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006)
Large (H: 88 cm) and colorful tulipiere by Bjørn Wiinblad, made in five parts and decorated in the artist's characteristic imaginative and fairytale-like idiom.
The model "Dyveke" is shaped like a whimsical lady in a hat, where a stylized woman's head wears a wide hat, while the four vase elements above form a tall and sculptural whole. The many openings were originally intended for tulips or other single flowers.
The hand-decorated surface is executed in vivid shades of lemon yellow, green, turquoise, blue, pink, brown and white. The decoration combines concentric circles, geometric patterns and Wiinblad's characteristic female figure with almond-shaped eyes, pink cheeks and quirky details.
The tulipiere appears both as a functional vase and as a striking ceramic art object, illustrating the playful and decorative approach that made Bjørn Wiinblad one of the most recognizable figures in Danish design. "Dyveke" was produced in several color variations and is among his most spectacular ceramic works from the period.
Signed BW, model V31, dated 72 and DANMARK.
Denmark, 1972.
