Børge Mogensen (1914–1972).
Slat sofa, model BM 1789, made of lacquered beech with a slatted back and woven seat.
The sofa comes with its original cushion set in dark blue and red checked wool upholstery, a so-called horse blanket fabric, designed by Lis Ahlmann, as well as original leather straps.
The slat sofa was designed in 1945 and is among Børge Mogensen's best-known pieces of furniture. The construction combines a sofa and a chaise longue, as one side can be folded down, thereby extending the seating surface. The light frame with its characteristic slats gives the piece an open and simple expression, while the flexible construction reflects Mogensen's functional approach to furniture design.
This example was manufactured by Fritz Hansen and has been preserved with its original cushion set and upholstery.
Marked with the manufacturer's metal plaque FH – Made in Denmark – By Fritz Hansen.
The sofa has belonged to the same family for two generations and is in very nice original condition with minimal signs of age and use.
Manufactured by Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1966
